2005 STUDENT RESEARCH INITIATIVE
Center of Excellence in Computer Information Systems
WHY:
In the interest of promoting research and a culture of research at DSU and enhancing faculty-student interaction, the Center of Excellence (CEX) and the Institutional Research Committee invite proposals for $300-$500 Student Research Initiative Awards. Additional funds will also support travel expenses to present research at conferences and workshops.
WHAT:
The Student Research Initiative (SRI) is a competitive program that engages students at both undergraduate and graduate levels in research work under the guidance of a faculty advisor/mentor. Students receiving an SRI award will work throughout the year with their faculty mentors/researchers to complete a research project and participate in a series of 4 workshops from university sources on topics including but not limited to
Preparing a Competitive Proposal
Finding and Understanding Related Work
Preparing Research Work for Poster and Conference Presentation
Preparing a Research Report
WHO:
Student receiving an award will also participate in the research poster session at the state capitol and at the DSU CEX Symposium in April 2006, and submit a final research report to the CEX detailing the research work and its outcomes, following standard CEX report format (available at a later date).
HOW:
To apply for a Student Research Award, students should complete and submit a 2-page application form to the Center of Excellence Research Committee. File the application electronically to: wayne.pauli@dsu.edu

Awards will be announced October 21, 2005.
